Harper confessional

I've been letting Harper mess with the DS, and she's been recording sound files.  I listened to them and found a little theme... Oh, it starts innocently enough with an "Itsy Bitsy Spider" rendition, but then you'll quickly see a theme emerge.

Transcript of the video
(for those folks who don't speak Harper-speak)

Wash the spider away
Up came the sun and dried up all the rain
So the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again

But I can't have it.
But I really want it.
But it costs too much.
But I still want it, you know.
I just do.

Well, well, just... Well, I JUST can't have ABCMouse dot com because Mama and Daddy my Mama and Daddy think...

Just have to have that ABCMouse dot com, BUUUUUT my Mama and Daddy think it costs too much but they just say it...

Well, ABC mouse is on Nick Junior.  Well, I just want... [undecipherable] ...sign up for free...

Well, I JUST need ABCMouse dot com, BUUUUT I just still want it but my Mama and Daddy say...

Well, I really want ABCMouse dot com, but it costs eighty doll...eighteen dollars.  I just can't have it.

A. B. C. Mouse dot com {long pause}  A. B. C. Mouse dot com...  I want A...

In case you're wondering, is a learning website advertised on the kids channels.  It costs eighty dollars a year to subscribe which is why little princess isn't getting what she so obviously desires.

Things that Harper does that are awesome:
  • Encourages like a little cheerleader "You can do it, Mama!"
  • Gives praise "You did so awesome, Daddy!"
  • Seems to prefer kids TV shows that we can tolerate like Octonauts and Jack's Big Music Show (we'll try to forget that brief Dora phase)
  • Loves science and studying the human body
  • Learned to snuggle (the kid was born curious, not cuddly)
  • Takes deep breaths when she gets upset
  • Sings off key
  • Says things she hears like "It's no use. I'm doomed."  (From Octonauts flying fish episode.)
  • Has a zillion imaginary friends (Nana, Belle, Bone Girl, Muscle Girl...)
  • Gives huge hugs and sometimes even gives kisses

Letter to Santa + Harper at 3

This is Harper's letter to Santa Claus. Here's a translation she gave me for those of you who don't read preschooler. And here is a picture of a trampoline with a slide that goes ziiiiip.Harper at 3 (well, 3 1/2 really) is a pretty cool kid. We have our moments, of course, but that's what time out is for, right? At 3 1/2, Harper:
- Is obsessed with the human body. She's calmed down about it over the last few weeks, but she'd love nothing more than to cuddle up and read about intestines or watch a discovery channel show about brain surgery.
- Likes to do projects (or "pa-jects" as they sound when she says it)
- Can count to 100
- Can spell her first and last name (I guess singing the spelling of her name to her to the tune of the Mickey Mouse song since birth has finally paid off)

- Can write a few letters (H, A, F, O, Z and sometimes a few others)
- Can write and spell a few words (zoo, off, no)
- Loves to write "notes" and send emails on Daddy's ipad
- Still sings her little made up song "I love you. You love me. We are the best friends together."
- Eats a few more foods/vegetables, but only when we bribe her
- Speaking of bribes, she loves peppermint patties and chocolate
- Goes to preschool two mornings a week and likes it
- Is 38.5 inches tall and weighs 32 pounds

Sorry about the sideways shots.  That little feature is thanks to Blogger evidently.

Harper is loving school so far.  She's anxious to go each time and has great stories to tell and projects to show us when she comes home.  She's slowly learning the other kids names and sharing them with us.

Busy Summer

Well, if you don't read my art blog at all, you might think we've fallen off the face of the earth. Really, we've just been traveling all over it and having fun adventures. The photos are from our trip to Huron, Ohio. We stayed at a little RV spot called Firefly Beach on Lake Erie.Harper found lots of rocks, shells, and sea glass at "Erie Beach" as she calls it, but she was pretty darn intrigued by these pistachio shells too.Yes, Doug can find internet access anywhere. The front room is finally coming together. Just need to hang up pictures, get curtains, and install the light.

In other news, Harper got a shiner when she got hit with the swing in the backyard. Just in time for school (her first day is tomorrow).

We went to Nashville over the weekend. Lots of pics on the Flickr site...
Harper was a good little traveler. Better than I was, I'm sure. Ok, I wasn't that bad. While I was taking a shower Sunday morning, Harper was busy building what she calls "the machine" with a bunch of pillows and blankies. The machine makes you better. Not really sure how this pillow contraption works yet. I'll keep you posted. She's recreating one in our living room. :)
