Some House Photos

Week 32, Day 1

homones + putting house on market = one bossy, cranky pregnant lady

It's completely insane what we're doing, but we're doing it anyway. The house is going to be shown for the first time on Saturday. That's right, this Saturday. I'm practicing lots of deep breathing, listening to relaxing music, and trying to stay "unstressed". It's really not in my nature to just let it go. I'm not a neat freak until I know that someone else might see my mess. Then I turn into some sort of crazy perfectionist. And houses just aren't perfect.

Hopefully the baby will forgive her mother for being such a nutcase right now. She's not exactly helping matters by insisting to roll around right underneath (in?) my ribcage. She's very active right now.

Ok... breathe in, breathe out... (wait for baby to move out of the way)... breathe in... breathe out...

Week 31, Day 5

On a very happy note, my parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary! Yay (for surviving raising four kids in the process) and Happy Anniversary!

On the usual and much less impressive baby topic, pregnancy seems to have lots of ups and downs. All of that is probably more interesting for all of you to read about than this "somewhere in the middle" phase I'm in right now. All is well and seems to be on schedule. I'm certainly not complaining. "Somewhere in the middle" is a good place to be with a little over eight weeks to go.

Things on the home front are a little more interesting. We're looking into putting our house on the market really soon, so we're rushing about working on house details. I'm in denial about the fact that it's completely crazy to try to sell our house while we're having a baby. I'm using the denial thing to cope with the fact that we have no plan for what will happen if the house actually sells quickly. I'm relying on the fact that we always manage to figure it out. This time with a baby in tow.

Week 31

The big 2-0-0. Pounds, that is.

The cat was meowing in the bathroom and wouldn't quit, so I went in there to see what his issue was. Still no idea what his big problem was, but on a whim, I picked him up and stepped on the scale.

An even 200 pounds.

I didn't know we had a 50 pound cat.

Week 30, Day 6

Hmmm... how do I explain this new little pregnancy problem without being gross? I'll give it a shot.

Food goes in, nothing comes out. My colon is laughing at me.

Eat 200% of the recommended daily amount of fiber? My colon snickers and says, "You can do better than that."

Drink massive amounts of water? Well, my bladder is entertained at least.

Prunes and prune juice? "Ha, ha," says the colon.

Drink things like coffee and orange juice that normally irritate the heck out of my digestive system? Barely even a chuckle from my colon.

Must Grout Tile... Must Grout Tile...

There's a small tile project that I started TWO YEARS AGO that still isn't grouted. Here's where the excuses (and continued procrastination) start. 1) It's in a far, far away part of the house that I only visit once a month or so. Do I only visit because every time I go into the room the tile screams at me, "GROUT ME!"? Possibly. 2) I don't know where the grout I purchased is located. (Found it last night... scratch this "reason" off of the list.) 3) There's prep work involved. I'm fine if I can just walk in and do the actual job, but I hate prep work. 4) For a little while, I had a great excuse. I loaned out the grout float to Lea. Unfortunately for me, my responsible friend gave it back. :) 5) There are too many other fun things to do. Duh.

I guess I'll start making the long trek all the way down to the project with all the supplies. Sigh.

P.S. I'm pretty proud of myself that I didn't add being pregnant to the list. I would have had to call myself out on that one because "I just don't wanna" is much more honest.

Week 30, Day 2

All went well at the doctor visit today. Baby's heartbeat is in the 138-142 range which is normal, she moves around a lot, and I'm measuring right on schedule. This is probably the most well behaved my child will be for her whole life, so I'll enjoy it.

I'm starting to figure out baby shower stuff, so that's in the works too. I know most of you won't be able to be there, but I'll send you an invite for fun anyway. :)

Other than that, things are nice and boring around here. Kind of a calm before the storm sort of thing, I guess. I suppose that's the best way to be for now.

Photo

Lea took this photo on Friday... I figured I should be brave enough to post a second big belly bump shot before my usual four week update, so here ya go! Ten weeks left is a lot of belly growing time. I'm not exactly sure how that's going to work, and I don't really want to think about it very much.

Happy Valentine's Day! Week 30 begins!

Y Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Y

I LOVE this day. At work there are cupcakes and cookies and doughnuts and EVEN a chocolate fondue fountain that we can dip healthy stuff like bananas and strawberries in to make ourselves feel better about eating all this yummy sugar! I'll probably gain five extra pounds just for my doctor's appointment tomorrow, but I DON'T CARE. I was so distracted by all the goodies in the kitchen and wanting to have some that I could only make it through my long morning meeting by doodling.

Ok, back to work until my next cupcake break! Lots of LOVE to everyone today! :)

Art Project Photos

Some photos of the art projects for the baby's room. A BIG thank you to Lea!

A preview of my newest project in progress...

And the big ole mess that has taken over the house...

Week 29, Day 5

A SUPER weekend full of friends and creativity... Missy, Lea and I had a great girls night of eating and chatting. We're hoping to continue our get togethers on a regular basis. I'm certainly up for that at least until the baby gets here. I'll probably need the get togethers even more after that happens.

Lea and I made lots of cool art on Saturday (photos coming soon), and I was so inspired that I kept going all through the weekend. Ok, I did rest a little on Saturday night. I had worn myself out!

Baby is kicking and kicking. We're starting to get to that phase where you can see her rolling around in there. It's very strange to see it from the outside. As soon as I get used to one phase of this pregnancy thing, another one rolls into town. Back aches seems to be one of the new constants. Nothing too bad yet though.

Week 29, Day 2

11 weeks to go and all I see are lists, lists, lists. My brain hasn't been thinking in full sentences lately, only in lists. I've started lists for things to get done around the house (I think we've whittled down that list of 35 things to around 10 or so), lists of people to call when the baby is on the way, lists of things I need to take to the hospital, lists of baby shower thoughts, lists of my lists... I suppose you get the idea. And if you have something to do on one of my lists, run if you see me headed your way. (My poor husband.)

I get to do some fun stuff this weekend. Yay! I'm hanging out with Missy and Lea tonight for a girls night in, and then Lea and I are going to work on some fun art projects for the baby's room tomorrow. If that goes well, photos will follow. Then tomorrow night we're headed to an end of duck season party. If you've never been to one, well, it involves eating duck. Duck sausage, pan cooked duck, and probably some other duck stuff that I don't need to know about. Oh, and last year's involved people practicing their duck calls. That part was kind of painful. If I'm "in a mood" tomorrow, the pain might get spread around a bit.

Week 28, Day 6

My family and friends have said very nice things about my appearance while I've been pregnant. They've been supportive and tell me all of the wonderful things that a pregnant woman wants to hear while she's packing on the baby pounds. I remember and appreciate each one of those comments especially during times like a little incident on the way out the door from work yesterday.

As I was leaving to go home, a co-worker (who has daughters in their mid-twenties who will likely get pregnant sometime in the next few years) said, "Goodbye, Chubby!" His daughter (who was standing nearby) gasped. All I could say at the time was "NO YOU DIDN'T!" He's lucky it wasn't a hormonal day yesterday or I am positive his head would not have made it out the door attached to the rest of his body.

SO, my family and friends, THANK YOU, and I love you!!! Your support truly gets me through the day while having the bonus effect of tempering the not so thoughtful things that people feel the need to say.

A lot can happen in just four weeks

Week 28, Day 5

I did absolutely nothing over the weekend. It was lovely. I was so stuck to my place on the sofa that I actually started to hurt from all the sitting. I bet there's a Shelly-shaped imprint on the couch for the rest of the week.

The baby didn't share my desire for inactivity. She was bouncing all over the place. And we think that she had the hiccups at one point because I kept feeling this little lurch in the same place at a very regular cadence for about five minutes. Or maybe our baby's just got rhythm. I kind of prefer that explanation... envision her just grooving to her own little tune in there.

Travel

My friend Missy found this website that tells you what percentage of the countries of the world that you've visited. She's been to 6%. I'm at a measly 3%. :)
