Back In Whack

Out of Whack

Harper didn't go to sleep last night until 11:15 and then she woke up this morning for a bottle around 4:30. Then she wouldn't go back into her bassinet to sleep so I held her until 7 AM when she woke up again. As a result, we're both a bit out of whack today. But as the wise (cracking) David McCorkell once said, "Is anyone ever in whack?" I'll try to take another photo once Miss Harper is back in whack.

Phone Sweet Phone

Cell phones are sweet. I often forget that there are cameras on cell phones these days (just one more thing to make me feel older, I suppose). We've been sending and receiving pictures lately, and I thought I'd share. The photo above is one I sent to Doug one early morning while he was in Ohio and we were still in Washington.

The next photo is one we got from Dave and Lea when they babysat for Harper. That was really our first time away from her, so it was cool to get an update!

The other day we chased the hot air balloons, but forgot our camera. Doug improvised with his cell phone.

Yesterday Uncle Dave sent photos of Will and Ruby playing with Harper.

And to cap things off, just a few minutes ago Doug just sent me a photo he's been saving of what appears to be my butt crack on display while setting up Christmas trees at my brother's wedding reception last, last Christmas. Thanks, honey.

Hello, South Africa!

Strange thing. I started using this google analytics thing to see how many people visit the blog. One of the other features is a map of your blog visitors. Evidently people from 25 countries have visited the blog. Who knows why or if they're even legitimate. It's still pretty cool. Harper thinks she's famous around the world now. :)
Speaking of famous... we'd like to think we started a trend. One of the Dixie Chicks just had a baby girl, and she named her Harper.

My Pretty Pink Ribbon

An actual update with real words

I haven't had much to write for a while. I suppose baby brain has replaced pregnancy brain. Top that with all the turmoil going on in our lives and I guess what you'd get is a bunch of blah, blah, blah about moving and houses and work and worry and whatever. Thanks to the folks who have continued to post stuff on their blogs for me to read. It's nice to read about other people's lives even when (especially when) I have nothing to say.

We're doing well despite all the changes. We are sort of starting to settle into a routine. Harper is still sleeping around seven hours a night. (I dread those nights when she conks out at 9 PM.) She wakes up for a bottle and then we nap together until around 9 AM or so. After that we hang out until I turn her over to Ruby at 10 AM so I can work. The first few weeks were really hard. I could hear Harper just outside the office door. I was sad that I needed to stay busy working. Headphones and no excuses to leave the room seem to be a pretty good answer, but occasionally I drink all my water down in big gulps so I do have a tiny excuse to peek at her.

Harper is doing really well. She's babbling and doing little razz-berries at us. She smiles a lot and loves to kick. I have some ABC and word flash cards that she just stares at when I read them to her. She likes books too, but typically she only has enough patience to make it through about half. I never realized how long some of those Dr. Seuss books are. She still loves to go outside and that almost always calms her down when she's fussy.

Harper has been eating well. I don't think the doctor will be disappointed with her weight gain when we go to our next appointment (early September). She's an eating machine (Beefcake, Beefcake!) . Right now we're giving her half formula and half breast milk. I'm in the process of weaning her off of breast milk completely. I had several reasons for weaning, and it was a very hard decision, but Harper doesn't seem to mind formula at all. I still pump, but only when I'm uncomfortable.

We're pretty settled into our temporary home here. We're comfortable, but I'd still like things to move forward so we can start looking for a house. I looked at the pictures of our Washington house online yesterday, and I was fine until I saw a photo of Harper's room. That made me kind of homesick. I miss our friends, our home, and even our routine.

Ok, enough about that. I have enough ups and downs from hormones that I don't need to go creating my own highs and lows.

That's our update for the moment.

I've got somethin' to say!

I've been talking up a storm today. I've progressed from my first words of "ahh-goo", "un-ghee", and "ah-knee" to a whole stream of chatter. I squeal now and from time to time I even surprise myself!

You'll never guess what I'm doing...

Yep! It's time for the poo-poo dance again. Mommy only caught the end of it this time though. I didn't even give her enough time to focus!

One more

9 weeks old

Baby had her doctor appointment today. She got FIVE shots, but she was a trooper and only cried for a little bit. We do have a little homework to do because Harper has gotten a bit skinny. She's 23.5 inches long and 10 pounds, 2 ounces. That puts her in the 90th percentile for height but only the 25th for weight. We're working to plump her up and dash any aspirations she may have had to be come a super-skinny supermodel. I did let her pose for a soon-to-be-not-skinny-girl photo shoot today, so enjoy!

Hey Momma, don't mess with me 'cause I'm playing with my new toys!

Hello there

This photo is actually from the other day, but what the heck. :)

Wide Awake

Please Baby, go to sleep. Mommy needs a nap. And a cookie.

While the batteries for the camera are charging, I guess I can give an update on Harper. We measured her the other day (6/27), and she was 10 pounds, 10 ounces and 23 inches long. She has very awake days and very sleepy days. Just like her momma. She's babbling quite a bit and smiles when we smile at her. Her favorite butterfly toy continues to keep her entertained. She still hates wet diapers. She goes to sleep at night without being rocked, but she usually won't take a nap without being held or swinging in her swing. She knows how to take her pacifier out of her mouth, but she can't put it back in again.

I would like to say that Harper is now sleeping, but guess what, she's not. I'm off to think of a Plan B.
