Harper and her Birthday Horse

Harper got a horsey from my parents for her birthday back in May. She's just getting around to figuring out how to get on it and play. Now we've attached a ribbon to the neck so she can pull it around (pretty much her favorite activity is dragging around any kind of string and seeing if she can get anyone to pick up the other end).

Take 2

don't be creepy revised, originally uploaded by shellypaints.

Perhaps I shouldn't be posting until the light of morning. The creepy triplets should have been stealing art! Duh!

Here is a link to the flickr group with all of the campaign artwork:

Join the Stop Art Piracy Campaign!

don't be creepy, originally uploaded by shellypaints.

Marsha Jorgensen of Tumble Fish Studios started a campaign to bring awareness to art piracy after some of her work was used without permission.

Here's how it works:

Artists are creating special anti art piracy themed images for people to add to their blogs. The images link to the flickr group Marsha created.

You MAY copy my image for the sole purpose of displaying on your blog or website IF it is linked back to this flickr group You may NOT use any piece of this image for your own artwork or any other publication or reproduction.

Chasing Balloons

We went on our second annual chase balloon landings in your pajamas event. I didn't really explain in my last post that Middletown has an annual hot air balloon event where balloonists compete by dropping flags on marked locations in town. Yesterday we were watching them come in to drop flags, and today we chased them to watch them land. It's kind of crazy... they land all over the place. It's surreal to be driving through town with hot air balloons hovering all over the place and dropping everywhere. We saw one land in the street, and then we drove on to see a few land in a field next to a church parking lot. All of the church goers were arriving for church, and there we were in our pajamas. Oh well, we had fun anyway. :)

Balloons and Bubbles!

This next one is my favorite shot. She gets so excited about bubbles and even started saying "bubble" very clearly a few days ago.

Your Suggestions Needed

I've been here for a wee bit over a year now.

And it's time to meet some real live people.

Maybe even make a friend (or two {gasp!}).

Do you have any suggestions for where I can meet people?

I'll start by saying, I'm not a mommy and me playgroup kind of girl. I'm sure there are perfectly nice people who do playgroups here, but I honestly don't think I can do it.

I've tried the Gymboree classes for Harper and a class at a scrapbooking store so far. The Gymboree parents seem to all keep to themselves and leave me wondering if people even talk to each other any more. The scrapbooking class was a bust too. There were two people at my table - one woman seemed just plain old mad at her journaling project, and the other woman only responded to direct questions and then went back to working. It didn't help that the instructor felt we needed to be taught how paperclips work.

Where does one find clever, crafty, funny, social, local people who have room in their lives for one more friend?

Where does the time go?

I have no idea how days or weeks go by without posting something. It just happens. It could perhaps be that life and baby and work and art thing, but who knows... maybe there's some other explanation like laziness or nothing interesting to blog about or space alien abduction.I started working on this big giant black thingy yesterday. Exciting, huh? I'll try to post pictures as it progresses into something besides a "thingy".

And on a fun note (well, fun for ME anyway), I got an award/meme from a much sweeter Shelly (AKA BlueRidgeLady - see her blog HERE)! I'm supposed to tell seven things about myself and then pass the award on to seven of my fabulous blogging buddies. I think I'll do the pass it on part first.

I hereby bestow this 7 things award on:

  1. Sarah ( Sissy - I didn't steal Mary this time, so you'd better send it to her! :)
  2. Rosemarie (
  3. Lea (
  4. Syd (
  5. Gigi (
  6. Roc (
  7. Cassandra (

Ok, seven things about me: (I've been feeling peevish lately, so I'll start with a pet peeve.)

1. I can't stand stepping in anything wet while wearing socks. Completely freaks me out and the socks must come off immediately. And just so I don't use up another one of my seven things with stepping on things issues, I'll say here that I also can't stand to walk on a dirty floor (i.e., my kitchen floor) barefoot because I hate feeling any kind of grit on the bottom of my feet.

2. I have more ideas than I have time/energy. A constant source of frustration that I keep at bay by writing lists.

3. I write a lot of lists.

4. I find eating to be a hassle on most days. And when I'm doing artwork, it's just downright unbearable to have to stop to eat. I mean, I like food just fine, but eating is too much work and just takes too much time in my opinion. (Marsha - I seem to remember that you have this "issue" too! I remember reading that on your blog quite a while back thinking... I thought I was the only one! Maybe Willy Wonka will come out with his whole meal in a piece of candy someday.)

5. When I grow up, I want to be a Muppet. Minus the someone shoving their arm up my arse part.

6. I've lived in five different states. This means that I have friends and family all over the darn place. Really, this item should have said... I'm really not good at keeping up with all of my family and friends. But I do think about them a lot.

7. I am still convinced that I lost brain cells during pregnancy/childbirth. While that was all for a very worthwhile and quite adorable cause, I think it is a true pity that I didn't kill my brain cells doing something more irresponsible.

400+3 and Growing

I missed celebrating my 400th post! Oops. SO, it's a 400+3 post celebration! Woohoo! We're dancin' and singin' around here. Well, mostly Harper. :)
I'm working on a nature journal for an upcoming swap. For once, I'm way ahead of schedule. It's not going out until September! Here's the back and front covers. Continuing with my recent desire to do new artsy things, I made the little NATURE letters out of Sculpty. Once they were formed using a silicone mold and baked, I colored them with a tan permanent marker and then tinted them with watered down brown paint.
I also grew my art area some more. I was getting frustrated from feeling cramped but still wanting all of my supplies at my fingertips. I added one of my IKEA tables from my painting space downstairs and a flea-market bookshelf that was downstairs too.
I've been trying to find a way to display some of the art treasures I've been collecting lately from swaps and Etsy purchases. I had an old rusty piece of gate that I got at the antiques mall in town (which is now sadly closed). I leaned it against the wall on top of the bookcase and used clothespins to clip my pretties onto the gate. Problem solved!
Well, that's it for my 400+3rd post. We're sad it's over...
...but we'll see you soon!

Flowers and P.S.

To answer Miss Lea's comment to my last post, the purple flower is a passion flower and the red one is bee balm. That info came from Ruby, of course. I had no idea what they were.

And a P.S. to Lea - I get an error for some reason when I try to leave a comment on your blog, but the real P.S. is that I know you'll miss your sweet girl Bebe. I'm sure you can go visit her at her new home though, right?

And a little more

This girl has a lot of hair. I heard a little hair trimming even happened while I was in Washington.

And these are in our side yard. Pretty interesting looking if you ask me.

Doodle Time at 30,000 Feet

This doodle time is brought to you by AirTran airlines - the airline that took me safely and on schedule to Washington and back.

And now I'm off to find some lunch and put something on besides pajamas. I have my sights set high today!
